The restaurant has a rustic decor and keeps an old times look of late 1900's. It is next to the railroad and you can see the trains coming and going while you eat. They serve seafood, beef, pork, chicken, duck, lamb, and veal. The Crostini Bread starter is good. I have eaten here many times. The steaks are tender and tasty. The Cheese Ravioli is exceptional. It is served with crab meat in a white wine cream sauce. The wine list is extensive. Try the Berry Crumble for dessert. Definitely eat here when in town.

The bagels are always fresh and there are lots of kinds to choose from. The coffee pretty good too. They make good sandwiches for lunch. You can take a sack lunch for the train ride.

Durango Rivertrippers has been in business a long time - locally owned and operated. They have excellent equipment and guides. They offer the Animas River trip and the Delores River trip. In the spring the waterflow is faster so spring is a good time if you want thrills. In the summer the ride is more peaceful and relaxing but still an adventure. Even within seasons, different trips are planned in spots for easy ride (good for children) or thrill seekers ride. Two hour and half day trips are offered for the Animas River ride. Durango Rivertrippers is one of only 18 outfitters permitted to run expeditions down the Delores River. The landscape is awesome and you usually see wildlife along the way. One, three, and six day trips are offered for this adventure.

The rustic elegance at Wits End dude ranch vacation resort offers relaxation and activities at your chosen pace. Thirty-two cabins sit in a valley by Vallecito Lake. Each cabin has a wood burning fireplace, covered deck, and handmade swing. Wits End has been named one of the top three guest ranches in the US. Childrens activities include horseback riding, campouts, games, and water sports. Adult activities include fishing, hiking, biking, tennis, golf, water skiing, horseback riding, barrel racing, roping, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, ballooning, and helicopter tours.

Colorado Trails dude ranch is a great place to go for horseback riding. They have additional activities for guests, but locals mainly like to take out-of-town realtives here for a few hours of scenic beauty and get some fantastic family fun photos. Groups of up to six are taken out - just your little cozy party.

Purgatory has some fun ski slopes, that's a given. People may be less aware that there are things to do in the summer also. Summer activities include Alpine slide, scenic chairlift rides, mountain bike uplift, climbing walls, miniature golf, and bungy trampolines.
